What are Nightmare Dungeons in Diablo 4?

Nightmare Dungeons are an endgame activity in Diablo 4, allowing you to power up the dungeons found out in the open world in order to get better loot and boost the amount of experience you earn.

Created with Sigils, Nightmare Dungeons in Diablo 4 are darker and harder, offering more intense battles. They also have additional objectives for players to complete and Affixes to overcome. But of course, the greater the challenge, the greater the rewards. Whether you’re hunting down Uniques or trying to get more Aspects, Nightmare Dungeons will be worth jumping into.

How to get Sigils

At this stage we don’t know everything about Sigils yet, but we do know that there are multiple types of them.

There are at least Sacred and Ancestral Sigils in Diablo 4, which can both be crafted by visiting an Occultist. You’ll need some Sigil Powder and plenty of Gold to do so though. When crafting a Sigil you’ll also need to choose a Tier – the higher the tier, the harder the Nightmare Dungeon created when using the Sigil will be. And as you’d expect, the higher the Tier, the more Sigil Powder and Gold you need to craft a Sigil.

The final thing to note is that specific Sigils are required to turn certain dungeons into Nightmare Dungeons in Diablo 4. Sacred Sigils, for example, can’t be used to turn any dungeon you find into a Nightmare Dungeon, only select ones.

What are Affixes?

Affixes will keep you on your toes as you make your way through Nightmare Dungeons in Diablo 4. They’re essentially modifiers, adding new threats and more to make your time in a Nightmare Dungeon more challenging and unpredictable. Unfortunately though, we don’t know about many of the Affixes found in Diablo 4 just yet.

We do know that there’s Hell Gate, which summons additional enemies into the dungeon for you to deal with. There’s also an invincible pillar of lighting, forcing you to keep on the move. And a shade that follows players and obscures their vision if it catches them. Each Affix, then, will change up the gameplay in its own unique way, keeping the experience fresh.

Having discovered the dark world of Diablo as a youngster, Richard has since lost thousands of hours slaying demons and picking up sweet loot. He wouldn't have it any other way though.
